13204: Machinist: CNC Lathe Specialist

Commonwealth Technology, Inc,(CTI) a division of MacAulay-Brown, Inc., is a R&D firm with in house manufacturing capabilities for prototype and low volume production. The candidate for the position must be able to set-up and operate CNC Lathes w/ dual spindles and live tooling on a Y-Axis as well as conventional CNC Lathes, manual lathes, manual mills, and/or various secondary equipment.  Other job duties include:

  • Utilizing knowledge of working properties and machining processes for a wide variety of materials.
  • May be required to grind own tools for special requirements.
  • Working independently, taking tasks from blueprints to completed parts
  • Working from work orders, routings, drawings, process drawings & layout sheets, written or verbal instructions. 
  • Performing significant program edits to G-code CNC programs.
  • Inspecting work produced, including 1st piece inspection, using micrometers, bore gauges, vernier calipers, or other measuring instruments, including CMMs, to verify conformance to specifications.  Maintain tolerances as close as 0.0005".
  • Following preventative maintenance procedures on equipment as prescribed by the supervisor and report operating difficulties of equipment.
  • Assisting CNC operators with setup and troubleshooting as required.  Train and instruct other employees when requested.
  • Keeping machine clean and well lubricated and work area orderly.
  • Performing duties in accordance with company policies.
  • Taking a proactive approach to continuous improvement including productivity, quality, safety and shop environment
  • Periodically work overtime after-hours or on weekends
  • Performing other duties as required


  • US Citizenship
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Experience setting up and operating Mazak Lathes with live tooling.

Desirable traits:

  • Security Clearance
  • Proficiency with MasterCam
  • Experience with GD&T
