14177: Senior Storage Engineer

The Senior Storage Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development of the Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Information Environment (JIE) implementation plans by providing data center support for a variety of storage systems and Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure including, but not limited to: EMC; NetApp Clustered Data OnTap; Dell EqualLogic; Brocade; Cisco; MDS/NX-OCS; Cisco UCS; and Commvault. The Senior Storage Engineer will be involved in design architecture, following industry standard best-practices, to ensure government security standards are followed.

Responsibilities include;

  • System research and design
  • System testing, configuration, and installation
  • System hardening, backup validation, monitoring and response
  • Continuously monitor components, peripheral systems, processes, requirements, performance and availability
  • Ensuring audit requirements are met
  • Performing mission critical component installations
  • Device administration
  • Meeting business continuity requirements in an enterprise, multi-platform storage and system recovery environment
  • Responsible for clear documentation of all aspects of the environment as well as system interactions, Service Desk integration; Windows and Linux system
  • Performs a key role in the preparation and execution of continuity and disaster recovery processes
  • BS in Computer Science or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering and implementing disk storage solutions
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience configuring SAN switches, including zones and Virtual Storage Area Networks (VSAN)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience performance tuning SAN implementations
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience engineering and implementing networked file system such as NFS or CIFS
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in developing and implementing disaster recovery solutions including DataDomain, Connectrix and RecoveryPoint devices
  • NCDA or NCIE Certification

Minimum Training/Certification requirements:

  • Must meet DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification requirements within 30 days of hiring date by completing the following certifications:
  • Baseline Certification
    • CompTIA Security+ (equivalent or higher security certification)
  • Computing Environment
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or
    • Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) or
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Working knowledge in at least two (2) of the following areas:

  • Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux administration and/or engineering
  • Oracle/Solaris systems administration and/or engineering
  • Windows administration and/or engineering
  • VMware vCenter/vSphere administration and/or engineering
  • Database administration and/or engineering using Oracle
  • Security posture administration and/or engineering
  • Ability to install, configure and monitor storage device hardware and data recovery systems including NAS, SAN, disk arrays as well as backup and recovery systems
  • Advanced understanding of storage concepts, function, protocols and interactions with host devices in a complex enterprise datacenter environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Computer Science or related field
  • Associate level or professional level certification in relevant subject matter (CCNA/CCNP/CCIP, RHCT/RHCE, MTA/MCTS/MCSE)
  • Experience in developing hardware and software documentation and training
